After a five year professional baseball career (Los Angeles Dodgers) Barry returned to Long Island University to finish education. Upon graduation in 1970, Barry joined Touche Ross & Co. (Big “8” Accounting Firm) where he worked in their Audit Department for almost three years. The client base was primarily department-store retailers.
Following his public accounting experience Barry joined Gimbels Inc. (a Touche Ross client) to start up and head their Internal Audit Department. Once the department was up and functioning, Barry moved to their Pittsburgh Division as Assistant Controller. This was the beginning of a series of financial management roles within the department-store industry. Time was spent at Joseph Horne ( Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania); Woodward & Lothrop (Washington, D.C. area); The Broadway ( southern California and Arizona) and J.W. Robinsons (southern California).
After a brief period at Organically Grown, Inc. (a Junior Clothing manufacturer and importer) and Giorgio, Inc. (a fragrance and retail store business) Barry embarked into the Specialty- Store arena of retailing. Beginning with The Limited Inc. where he worked at three of their divisions as well as the corporate office in Columbus, Ohio.
From The Limited, Barry spent time at J Crew Group, Ann Taylor and Build A Bear Workshop as their Chief Operating Officers. Barry was also a member of the board at Ann Taylor and Build A Bear. Currently, Barry serves as a Bluefly, Inc board of director and is Chairman of the Audit Committee.
