Doug Barry
Doug has more than 20 years of experience helping small and midsize companies engage in cross border commerce. Whether the company is US-based looking to expand globally, or international companies wanting to enter or expand in the US, Doug provides world-class advice on market analysis, risk mitigation, regulations, product classification, customs issues, sales and marketing, e-commerce, and more. Doug has worked abroad in Asia, Africa, and Russia. He has counseled hundreds of companies on market entry in every part of the globe. An author of several books and many articles and blog posts on international trade, Doug is also an adjunct professor at George Washington University and has taught at Georgetown University.
He worked for the International Trade Administration at the Department of Commerce where he held numerous leadership positions, including executive director of trade promotion programs responsible for trade missions and shows. He worked at US embassies and consulates in Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Prior to the Commerce Department, he was executive director of the Alaska Center for international Business, the Alaska-Russia Center, and the Alaska World Trade Center—all at the University of Alaska. Earlier in his career, Doug was a producer at ABC News in New York and London.
Among his many awards is the NASBITE International Business Educator of the Year for 2015. He has a doctorate in education from Columbia University.
For fun he performs with the Cathedral Choral Society, the Washington National Cathedral’s symphonic chorus. He enjoys Mongolian throat singing but doesn’t perform it.
